It’s been quite a while, so here’s another Fun Raising Friday look at 10 ideas for fun fundraising events that other groups are doing to raise funds. These fun fundraiser ideas from all across the country range from elementary school fundraisers to non-profit charity galas.
Duct Tape A Teacher – Students at an elementary school fundraiser in Downers Grove, Illinois duct taped a kindergarten teacher to the wall to raise money for Thanksgiving gift baskets for needy families. Colorful duct tape strips were $1 each or a donation of $5 was good for six strips. The kids raised $450 for gift cards to go with the donated items in the gift baskets created by each class.
Gold Rush Fundraiser – The Good Shepherd Foundation of Longview, Texas raised $430,000 with their 30th annual Gold Rush charity gala to support the Good Shepherd Medical Center. The fundraiser featured live entertainment, silent auction, live auction and a car raffle. In its 30-year history, the Gold Rush event has raised $7.9 million to provide medical and services to the community.
Christmas For Kids Fundraiser – Care House in Mount Clemens, Michigan is holding its annual holiday affair that will feature food tasting from 24 restaurants, wine tasting, beer tasting, 10 live auction packages for travel, dining, golf, electronics and spa packages; four raffle packages; and a premium, $100-per-ticket raffle featuring a winner’s choice of four vacation trips. Admission tickets are $100.
Guitars and Old Cars – A fun fundraiser for the Pioneers Memorial Hospital Foundation in El Centro, California features a classic car show and guitar playing contest
to benefit the hospital’s pediatric and neonatal unit. The fun and unique fundraising event had attendees voting on Best Car and Best Guitar awards.
Comics Come Home – Denis Leary hosts the 19th annual Comics Come Home fundraiser event in Boston, MA to benefit the Cam Neely Foundation, which provides support for cancer patients and their families. The sold-out show features comics with local connections, including Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”) and Jimmy Fallon (“Late Nite with Jimmy Fallon”).
Bar Buddies Bowling Tournament Fundraiser – The Bar Buddies safe ride program hosted the Bowling for Buddies Tournament in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The funds raised provided funding the for Baraboo’s Safe Ride Program. Several dozen local businesses sponsored the team event, which also included raffles and a silent auction.
Men Who Cook Buffet Fundraiser – More than 40 cooks served up dishes like chicken and sausage jambalaya, chicken cacciatore, cajun corn chowder, and pork marsala to raise money for the visual and performing arts in the Hatfield, MA schools.
Speakeasy Fundraiser – The non-profit Weehawken Creative Arts organization in Ridgway, Colorado held a Speakeasy fundraiser to raise money for its arts education, dance program, and community events. This 1920’s-themed fundraising event encouraged guests to dress in Jazz-Age style clothing to enhance the fun while dancing to live jazz music and enjoying Prohibition era cocktails.
Christmas Comedy Dinner Theater – The South Park Township Public Library outside Pittsburgh, PA is staging a Christmas-themed comedy play as part of a dinner theater fundraising event. This year the library is staging “A Tuna Christmas,” a comedy set in a fictitious Texas town that has an annual Christmas yard decoration competition that has been won by the same resident 14 years in a row. The play twist is that now a Christmas phantom is vandalizing the yard displays.
Zombie 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser – The Rising out of the Thicket Zombie 5k Fun Run/Walk in Longview, TX raised money to benefit the Coalition for Drug Free Youth. Runners and walkers could participate in plain clothes as “survivors” or dress in zombie costume and gory makeup. There was also an “undead” blood drive where participants were encouraged to give brains or blood!
