Hurricane Katrina Relief Donations

I've been getting a lot of questions about where to send donations to help the many victims of Hurricane Katrina.

As usual, stick with the established organizations who have infrastructure support already in place.

Here are a some of the best sites for giving hurricane relief donations:

American Red Cross http://www.redcross.org

American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish).


Feed the Children http://www.feedthechildren.org

They are an Oklahoma-based non-profit relief group asking for Katrina donations.

Salvation Army http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/

They have a Katrina Relief donation link on their home page.


Members of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, an association of more than 40 groups, including many prominent religious relief agencies, also are pitching in with Katrina disaster relief.

United Jewish Communities http://www.ujc.org/

Catholic Charities USA http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/

United Methodist Committee on Relief http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/

For those trying to get in touch with relatives or friends in the Katrina disaster area, try the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army's Team Emergency Radio Network is taking requests for information and providing contact assistance at their website:
